The Color of the Year for 2016 is . . . White?
According to the paint company Benjamin Moore, their paint color “Simply White” is the Color of the Year for 2016. And you may be thinking – wait, what? Is white even considered a color? Yes, and according to Benjamin Moore’s designers, white décor is in for next year.
Why White?
In years past, the company has touted such exotic colors as Guilford Green (2015) Breath of Fresh Air (2014) and Lemon Sorbet (2103) as colors of the year. However, according to the company’s design team, white is more than just another color. Using white is the best way to highlight architectural features (doors, archways, beams, molding), contrast against other colors, and bring out the shadows of textured items.
Another advantage of white décor: it simply never goes out of style. But, white can also be a very modern “design tool” on its own when used over large spaces and various surfaces, and layered with other whites. White is the ultimate color for pairing, because it “accepts and embraces” any color that is put next to it. White is pure, honest and the “silent hero” of home décor.
Practical Side
Of course, the practical among us will say, “There is no way could I have an all-white décor. With my children/pets/spouse, dirt and stains will show immediately.” So maybe a whole family room of white décor isn’t in the cards right now.
But if you are thinking about making a bold statement, consider using white for your next painting project. It’s classic and modern at the same time, and it will always be in style.
