Heartfelt, Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts
Show Off Your Mug
Remind Mom each morning how special she is with a mug made just for her. Place scrapbook letter stickers onto a solid-colored, ceramic mug or cup, spelling out her name or a sweet message. With oil-based Sharpie paint pens, add dots in her favorite colors all over the mug or create abstract patterns for her to enjoy. Once the design is dry, peel off the lettering. To keep the pattern from washing off, place your mugs in an oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Let the mugs sit in the oven to cool down for a few hours before removing them.
Wood You Look at That
Bring in the whole family with these crafts for Mother’s Day that are great for all ages! Create a handprint wall sign with just a refurbished piece of wood and a little white and red paint. Dip everyone’s hand into the white paint and press them against the wood to leave a lasting handprint. When the prints have dried, paint a red heart in the middle of each palm. Or cut out a handprint or heart from a black piece of paper, layering it over a collage of family photographs to make a picture that is unique to your home. Put it in a wooden frame decorated with fingerprints dipped in paint and hang it up with love to mom-orialize the day.
Celebrate multiple generations of motherhood with a picture worth a thousand words. While this option can be time consuming, it’s well worth every second! Using the same frame and backdrop, get a picture one by one of each mother holding an image containing younger generations, making a picture within a picture within a picture. For example, the final product could be an image of a grandmother holding a picture of a mother holding a picture of her daughter. To help strengthen the illusion, make sure that everyone is wearing the same color clothes. Place the final photo in the frame used for each image and hang it up in honor of every mother in your family.
As you make these DIY Mother’s Day crafts, remember to also set aside time to enjoy the company of the magnificent woman who will always love you. Have a very happy Mother’s Day!
